NEW DELHI: Key players of the Left Democratic Front government in Kerala , CPM and CPI, have accused the BJP-RSS combine and Congress of indulging in “double talk” and playing “dirty games” over the Sabarimala issue to target the state government.CPM politburo member S Ramachandra Pillai accused the NDA and Congress-led UDF of trying to deepen the confusion among Sabarimala devotees to gain support. “They are trying to depict the issue as a dispute between believers and non-believers. Both NDA and UDF are trying to make use of the unhappiness of conservative sections which do not appreciate the appointment of Dalits as pujaris in temples and reservation for backward communities, Dalits and Adivasis in appointments to Devaswom Board,” Pillai said. He claimed Congress was supporting BJP’s effort in Kerala.CPM’s claim was backed by CPI general secretary Sudhakar Reddy who said it was “very unfortunate” that BJP and Congress were working in contravention of the SC verdict, which allowed the entry of women of all ages into the hill shrine. The BJP-RSS combine had welcomed the SC judgment at the national level but were opposing it in the state, Reddy said. “So, this is a dirty game. They want to fight behind communalism. There are many such beliefs among people which are unscientific. This should not continue and RSS-BJP should not indulge in double talk, one at the Centre and one at the state level,” he said.Reddy also accused Congress of behaving in a “very irresponsible” manner. “This is third rate type of politics,” he said.He clarified that Kerala government could not file a review petition since it had already filed an affidavit in the SC stating it had no objection over women praying at the Sabarimala.
