TDB to meet today to finalize its stand

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Travancore Devaswom Board will meet on Friday to decide on the stand to be taken before the Supreme Court when the court takes up the review petition on the Sabarimala issue on November 13.The board will also decide on the counsel who will be appearing for it during the meeting. Though it has decided not to submit any report on the developments that took place after the apex court gave its verdict, the TDB 's position is that it will make clear its stand only if the Supreme Court insists.TDB president A Padmakumar had initially voiced an opinion which was different from the LDF government's point of view regarding the entry of women into the hill shrine. Hence, the stand the TDB takes before the Supreme Court will be crucial.The board meeting held on Wednesday had decided to send its counsel before the Supreme Court when the review petition comes on November 13. However, he will appear for former TDB president Prayar Gopalakrishnan who has filed a review petition against the SC order allowing entry of woman of all age groups into Sabarimala.Meanwhile, after BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai made a statement that tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru consulted him before threatening to close down the temple if women enter the temple, the TDB had asked for an explanation from Rajeevaru. The tanthri has been asked to submit the explanation before Friday. The board meeting is also likely to discuss the issue. There are reports that the tanthri is upset over the move as he had denied having any such dialogue with Pillai.
