KOZHIKODE: Police on Thursday registered a case against BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai under non- bailable charges for his recent controversial speech on the Sabarimala issue.Pillai has been charged under IPC Section 505(1)(b) for making statements "intending to cause fear or alarm to the public or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against public tranquillity".The police move comes on the basis of a complaint filed by Shybin Nanmanda.Pillai had in his speech at a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha state committee meeting held here on Sunday said that Sabarimala tanthri Kandararu Rajeevaru had consulted him before announcing that he would close the sanctum sanctorum of the Sabarimala temple, if any young woman entered the premises.Pillai had said that he had told the tanthri that closure of the temple would not attract contempt charges and even if did, the tanthri would not be alone and that thousands of people would be there along with him.The Supreme Court had on September 28 delivered its verdict, allowing women of all ages to visit the hill shrine.Pillai had also said that the Sabarimala agitation staged between October 17 and 22 was "mostly planned and executed by the BJP".
