KASARAGOD: Apparently to browbeat the CPM , which has been harping on the renaissance period of Kerala, the photos of prominent renaissance leaders have found a place on the Rath prepared for the Save Sabarimala Yathra of the NDA.The rath is decorated with the photos of Sree Narayana Guru, Chattambi Swamikal, Vaikunda Sawmikal, Mannath Padmanabhan, Pandit K P Karuppan and T K Madhavan.Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been invoking the renaissance period to claim that the Supreme Court order on Sabarimala was in tune with tradition.At the same time, the speakers at the NDA meeting at Madhur invoked the name of Tippu Sultan in their speeches. They reminded that Tippu had tried to demolish the Madhur temple just the way Pinarayi has been trying to 'destroy' Sabarimala. BJP leaders also drew similarities between the Yathra in the state and the rath yathra undertaken by party leader L K Advani."Today is the birthday of Advaniji," reminded P S Sreedharan Pillai. He added that the Save Sabarimala Rath Yathra will change the political climate of Kerala the way Advani changed the political fortunes of BJP at the national level.O Rajagopal, MLA, presided over the function to inaugurate the yathra. NDA vice-chairman Thushar Vellappalli, MP from Dakshina Kannada Nalin Kumar Kateel, BJP MLAs from Dakshina Kannada, P K Krishnadas, K Surendran, A N Radhakrishnan, Shobha Surendran, BDJS vice-chairman Subhash Vasu and leaders of other NDA constituents attended the meeting.
