KOCHI: Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) syndicate in a special meeting has decided to speed up the proceedings with respect to an allegation raised by a student from the department of marine geology and geophysics that she was harassed by three faculty members, including the head of the department.“Though a judicial commission headed by a retired judge was appointed to inquire into the matter as per the high court order, till date there has not been much progress in the matter. So, we have asked the registrar to speed up the inquiry,” said a syndicate member, who was present in the meeting.The complainant had used a mobile phone to record the video of her professors allegedly hurling bad words, which resulted in the suspension of the faculty. It was alleged that the three faculty members were continuously harassing the postgraduate student after accusing her of plagiarism.The suspended faculty members are K Sajan, professor and head of the department, and assistant professors Ajayakumar P and N R Nisha.The disciplinary action was taken based on a report by syndicate subcommittee, which concluded that the allegation of plagiarism against the student was baseless.The committee also concluded that the faculty members were continuously harassing the third semester MSc student.
