Stand alone open stage to come up at Kozhikode beach

An open stage that will be a sculpture and a venue at the same time will be set up demolishing the existing beach open stage.The new open stage will be constructed using the Rs 2.5 crore allotted from the asset development fund of MLA A Pradeep Kumar. The backdrop of the main venue will be constructed using granite stones.The second venue will have a laterite brick backdrop. KOZHIKODE: The work of the new active urban space of Kozhikode will begin on Monday. It will be suitable for mini events.Kozhikode is a culturally rich land and but the city lack a high end and cost effective open space for the conduct of events, said Pradeep Kumar.

The main venue will face the south reflecting the design of the existing stage and the second mini-stage will face the north, he said.The second venue is planned in a way to face the cultural zone , the work of which is in progress. The venue will have the facility to accommodate around 500 viewers.The existing stage is not fit to conduct mega events and does not follow the CRZ norms, Pradeep Kumar said. The new stage will clear the CRZ norms and will have all amenities required for a mega stage, said the MLA.The main stage will have one green room, toilet and other facilities. The backdrop of the main venue will be constructed using granite stones.The second venue will have a laterite brick backdrop. It will be suitable for mini events.Kozhikode is a culturally rich land and but the city lack a high end and cost effective open space for the conduct of events, said Pradeep Kumar. Beach is the only destination that has the possibility to accommodate large number of viewers for mega musical and cultural extravaganza, he added.The new open stage was designed by the Earth urban designers and the work would be carried out by ULCCS.“If we plan the venue as a single stage, the chances are high that the back side of the stage would become a ‘negative space’,” P P Vivek, architect. As we have designed two stages both the sides will remain active, he said.The passage between the two stages is planned as a sea walk way that will have inscriptions on the freedom movements in Kozhikode and other historic events. The passage is planned as monument of freedom struggle in the district.
