  • | Thursday | 15th November, 2018

Though it was earlier said that the Metro agency would execute the junction development works, KMRL clarified that there are no such plans in the pipeline. "Once the construction of the flyover gets over, the government would decide on the agency that would execute the junction development works," he added. In case the Metro agency gets entrusted with the task, we would have to make new proposals," said KMRL media coordinator.Regarding Vyttila Junction, the Metro agency said that the work of the flyover is being jointly executed by NHAI and PWD. "Almost 70% work of the walkway is over. The walkway-cum-cycle track that is being constructed on Hospital Road is another area that is being used as a parking lot.

KOCHI: The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL), which has undertaken the task to redevelop major junctions along the Metro route, said that it would take "considerable time" to begin implementation of such works at Kaloor and Vyttila. Though it was earlier said that the Metro agency would execute the junction development works, KMRL clarified that there are no such plans in the pipeline."As of now, there are no proposals for developing Kaloor. In case the Metro agency gets entrusted with the task, we would have to make new proposals," said KMRL media coordinator.Regarding Vyttila Junction, the Metro agency said that the work of the flyover is being jointly executed by NHAI and PWD."Once the construction of the flyover gets over, the government would decide on the agency that would execute the junction development works," he added. On a question on whether shortage of funds or financial crisis of the state government has adversely affected the works, he said: "It would not affect works that have already been tendered and awarded".Meanwhile, the Metro agency pointed out the pathetic state of walkways developed by them. The well-laid footpaths from Edappally to Kaloor have turned out to be a place for parking two-wheelers. The frequent movement of two-wheelers through the walkway has resulted in damaging tiles and slabs.Despite providing designated parking areas near Metro stations, motorists continue to park vehicles along the side of the roads. The walkway-cum-cycle track that is being constructed on Hospital Road is another area that is being used as a parking lot. The project planned by Cochin Smart Mission Ltd (CSML) is being executed by KMRL."Almost 70% work of the walkway is over. But it has already become a favourite space for parking vehicles," said the media co-ordinator.
