KOCHI/KANNUR: The UDF will breach the 144 imposed in Sabarimala on Tuesday. A high-level meeting held in Kochi on Monday decided that a team UDF of leaders led by AICC general secretary Oommen Chandy would trek to the hill shrine on Tuesday if the government wouldn't lift the restrictions there.Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala told a news conference after the meeting that the government had been enforcing unnecessary curbs in Sabarimala, which has led to a situation where the pilgrims had to face untold difficulties. "If the government doesn't lift the curbs, we would breach the 144," he said. Apart from Chandy and Chennithala, UDF leaders Benny Behanan, M K Muneer, P J Joseph, Johny Nellore, C P John, N K Premachandran and G Devarajan will be there in the team.Chennithala alleged that it was police raj in Sabarimala. "It is like the Operation Blue Star conducted by the Army in Punjab. Due to the unnecessary restrictions, pilgrims are unable to have a smooth darshan," he said. IUML general secretary P K Kunhalikkutty said that BJP and CPM were having an unholy nexus for gaining political goals. The UDF will also take over the strike called by IUML against the alleged nepotism committed by minister K T Jaleel.Meanwhile, in Kannur, KPCC working president K Sudhakaran also equated the police action with Operation Blue Star and said that the presence of police personnel, violating all norms, was the main problem in the hill shrine now."So far, there were some customs that the police followed and they never used to wear uniform or shoes or carry batons while on duty there. But this time they violated it and humiliated the devotees, which also affected the sanctity of the temple," he told a news conference.
