Modi lambasts Pinarayi Vijayan government for ‘shameful’ stand on Sabarimala

What happened in Tripura will happen in Kerala,” Modi said. The Congress has multiple stands – they say one thing in Parliament but a different thing in Pathanamthitta (the district Sabarimala is located in). Modi, your culture is Hitler’s culture! “Modi should read the Indian Constitution which he is sworn to uphold, rather than Manusmriti or RSS oath!,” the CPM said in a tweet. To them I say, don't underestimate the BJP karyakarta… They should see what happened in Tripura.

KOLLAM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that “what happened in Tripura will happen in Kerala” might seem a desperate attempt to shore up the morale of his party workers, but by branding “Congress-led UDF and CPM-led LDF as two sides of the same coin” he left no doubt that BJP and its NDA allies would do their utmost to disrupt Kerala’s decades-long bipolar political order in the upcoming general elections.Addressing a huge gathering of BJP workers here on Tuesday, Modi sought to tar both LDF and UDF with the same brush on a host of issues, ranging from Sabarimala and gender justice to corruption and economic reservation. He, however, reserved his sharpest barbs for the ruling front, saying that the conduct of the LDF government on the Sabarimala issue would go down in history as one of the “most shameful behaviour by any party and government”. Pointing out that the entire nation has been talking about Sabarimala for the last few months, the PM said, “we know that the communists do not respect Indian history, culture and spirituality but nobody imagined they would have such hatred”.Modi arrived in the state capital on Tuesday evening and inaugurated the 13-km long Kollam bypass, a project that had been hanging fire for almost four decades since its conception in the early ’70s, with both the state and central governments now seeking credit for its belated completion. After the bypass inauguration, the PM addressed a political rally at Kollam’s Cantonment ground.Targeting both fronts, he said, “the Kerala of spirituality & tranquillity, the Kerala of harmony and happiness, has become hostage to corruption and communalism of two alliances – LDF and UDF”.He came down hard on the Congress too. “The UDF is no better. The Congress has multiple stands – they say one thing in Parliament but a different thing in Pathanamthitta (the district Sabarimala is located in). They say one thing on Monday and a different thing on another day,” he said.He also attacked the Left and Congress regarding their alleged double-speak on gender justice. “The NDA government has been working towards abolishing triple talaq. But, who is opposing us on this? The Communists and the Congress… The people of Kerala should ask the LDF and UDF why are they supporting a practice that causes injustice to women,” he said.Reacting to Modi’s reference to its shameful behaviour and the hatred it was spawning, the CPM said it was “shameful” that Modi chose to attack the LDF government for implementing the Supreme Court verdict on Sabarimala. “Modi should read the Indian Constitution which he is sworn to uphold, rather than Manusmriti or RSS oath!,” the CPM said in a tweet. “And Modi should stop giving lectures on culture and history. Modi, your culture is Hitler’s culture! Don’t disturb God’s Own Country by your hate!” the tweet said.Defending the NDA government’s 10% reservation for economically weaker sections, Modi said it was passed with a “historic” majority in Parliament. “We believe that every Indian of any caste, creed or community deserves equal opportunity. We have also made provisions to increase the number of seats in institutions so that justice is done to all sections,” he said. He then criticised the Muslim League for opposing the bill. “Do you know which party opposed it tooth and nail? It is IUML, the second largest partner in UDF. We want to work towards social justice but the UDF does not agree with us,” he said. The prime minister appeared gung-ho about his party’s political prospects in the near future. Claiming that the BJP would make big strides in Kerala, he cited the example of Tripura where his party ousted the CPM to form the government last year. “The UDF and LDF may laugh at us. To them I say, don't underestimate the BJP karyakarta… They should see what happened in Tripura. From zero, we formed the government there. What happened in Tripura will happen in Kerala,” Modi said.
