Case against Kanakadurga, who entered Sabarimala, for assaulting mother-in-law

After their temple visit both had gone into hiding due to threats. The clash between them occurred around 7am on Tuesday, when Kanakadurga, who returned after her Sabarimala visit, tried to enter her husband’s house.It was on January 2 that Kanakadurga, along with Kozhikode native Bindu Ammini, entered the Sabarimala temple under police protection, after making a failed attempt on December 24. Earlier Sumathiyamma had alleged that it was Kanakadurga who first attacked her and she also sought treatment at government taluk hospital in Perinthalmanna. Brother of Kanakadurga, Bharathbhushan also had raised the same allegation against Kanakadurga.SI of Perinthalmanna P S Manjithlal said that cases were registered against both Kanakadurga and Sumathiyamma as both assaulted each other. Kanakadruga who was allegedly beaten up by Sumathiyamma is still under treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital (KMCH).

MALAPPURAM: The Perinthalmanna police have registered case against Kanakadurga , who walked into Sabarimala defying decades old ban on young women in the temple, for assaulting her mother-in-law when she returned back to her husband’s home on Tuesday.Police have confirmed that the case was registered under sections 341, 323 and 294 (d) of IPC, on basis of the complaint lodged by her mother-in-law Sumathiyamma.On Tuesday, police had registered a case against Sumathy also, based on the complaint of assault filed by Kanakadurga. Kanakadruga who was allegedly beaten up by Sumathiyamma is still under treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital (KMCH). Earlier Sumathiyamma had alleged that it was Kanakadurga who first attacked her and she also sought treatment at government taluk hospital in Perinthalmanna. Brother of Kanakadurga, Bharathbhushan also had raised the same allegation against Kanakadurga.SI of Perinthalmanna P S Manjithlal said that cases were registered against both Kanakadurga and Sumathiyamma as both assaulted each other. But mother-in-law was not ready to receive her at home.Earlier Kanakadurga, who is from an orthodox Nair family in Areekode in the district and also an active worker of left trade union, had drawn the ire of her relatives for her visit to Sabarimala.
