KOZHIKODE: Koduvally municipality authorities have put in place an effective mechanism for the annual maintenance and repair of the streetlights in its limit.The Municipality authority has already inked an agreement with the Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Ltd ( KSIE ) to carry out the annual maintenance and repair of the streetlights for a term of four years starting from 2018-19 to 2021-22.The municipality has agreed to remit a fixed money every financial year instead of remitting the amount at once to ensure that repair and maintenance of streetlights takes place without fail. The project will be executed at a cost of of Rs 1.30 crore. The municipality will allot Rs 32 lakh per year to KSIE for the streetlight maintenance. The municipality selected KSIE that quoted lowest amount from the list of six agencies submitted offers when it invited offer for the repair works. KSIE will carry out the maintenance of streetlights till the end of the agreement period.According to the Koduvally municipality officials, around 4700 streetlights are there in the municipality limits. Under the project, 75 watt LED streetlights will be installed on either sides of the national highway passing through the municipality. In other areas, the municipality will install 24 watt LED lights.CK Shareefa Kannadipoyil, chairperson of Koduvally municipality said that with the execution of the project, public complaints about no lights after sun set will be a thing of the past."KSIE will carry out immediate repair of the dysfunctional streetlights on getting complaints. Rs 32 lakh each will be released every financial year only after cross checking that repair and annual maintenance of streetlights being carried out by the company," said the chairperson.
