With polls in mind, Pinarayi Vijayan and ministers visit Vellappally

ALAPUZZHA: As the CPM-NSS relation sours further following the Sabarimala issue, the ruling party seems to be taking all efforts to appease Sree Narayana Dharama Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, accompanied by four cabinet ministers , called on SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan at the latter’s residence at Kanichukulangara here on Monday. Vijayan, finance minister T M Thomas Isaac, works department minister G Sudhakaran, devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran and food and civil supplies minister P Thilothaman spent around 15 minutes in the house. CPM district secretary R Nazar was also present at the meeting.Later, Natesan said it was just a friendly visit. “It is not the first time that Pinarayi Vijayan and these ministers are visiting me. We did not discuss politics or any other issues,” he said.Sources said CPM was confident that the Yogam would continue to extend its support in the general election. The Yogam had played an important role behind the success of Women’s Wall campaign organized by the government recently.Later in the day, the chief minister inaugurated the first phase construction of a pilgrim facilitation centre at Kanichukulangara temple. Natesan has been serving as the president of Kanichukulangara Devaswom for the past 54 years. Speaking at the function, Vijayan declared that the government would allot Rs 2 crore for the second phase of the project. “The first phase will be completed in a time-bound manner at a cost of Rs 3 crore,” he said. Natesan, delivering the welcome address, was all praises for the chief minister and his cabinet ministers.Minister Surendran presided over. District panchayat president G Venugopal was present at the function.
