KOCHI: Crime branch (CB) registered three separate FIRs at the special court in Kochi against Congress MLAs in connection with the sexual abuse allegations linked to the solar scam on Tuesday. FIRs were registered against Ernakulam MLA Hibi Eden, Wandoor MLA AP Anilkumar and his former additional private secretary P Nasarullah and Konni MLA Adoor Prakash. The move assumes significance since general elections will be held next month and the three leaders figure in the list of probable candidates for Ernakulam, Alathur and Attingal respectively. “Three cases have been registered and investigation is progressing. More details cannot be divulged because the model code of conduct is in place,” said a senior CB officer.Sources said that the case against Anilkumar and Nasarullah were registered under Section 377 (unnatural sex) and Section 420 (cheating). Adoor Prakash was booked under Sections 376 (rape), 354-A (Sexual harassment) and Section 120-O (causing, through any means of communication, a nuisance of himself to any person by repeated or undesirable or anonymous call, letter, writing, message, e-mail or through a messenger) of Kerala Police Act. Charges against MLA Hibi Eden included Section 376 and 354-A.Meanwhile, Eden rubbished the allegation saying that it was politically motivated. “The FIR proves that CPM is thinking about failure even before the opposition has decided on its candidates,” he said.“ADGP Anil Kanth and Rajesh Dewan had backtracked from this case stating that it wouldn’t stand legal scrutiny. The politics behind bringing this case back with the help of a close relative of Kottayam LDF candidate should be noted,” he said, without elaborating on the matter in a statement issued here.Eden added that May 23 will prove that Keralites are intelligent enough to see through the cheap plans of LDF government that have no merits.CB had earlier registered cases against former chief minister Oommen Chandy and AICC general secretary (operation) KC Venugopal. The woman involved in the case had given statements against them.Anilkumar also termed the move as a stunt to secure votes. “A hasty FIR, after the declaration of elections, reeks of political intentions. The government and police are going forward by considering the words of a woman who has no credibility,” he said.
