Thrissur woman killed in New Zealand firing: Relatives

THRISSUR: A 25-year-old woman from Kodungallur in the district was killed in a mass shooting attack at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, her relatives here said on Saturday.The woman, Ancia Alibava, was in a mosque along with her husband Thrivallur Ponnath Abdul Nazar, when a heavily armed Australian right-wing extremist opened fire at them on Friday. Family sources said it was not yet clear whether her body would be brought to Kodungallur.“We are yet to receive an official information on the incident from New Zealand authorities or from the Indian government,’’ a family member said. The relatives were earlier told that she was injured in the indiscriminate firing that killed at least 49 people.Family sources said the extremist targeted the area where women were offering prayers in the mosque.Ancia, a BTech degree holder in agriculture, and her husband had moved to New Zealand soon after her wedding 14 months ago. Nazar, had been working in the Middle-East earlier, and later secured a job in New Zealand.Niyaz, Ancia’s cousin, said she was continuing her education there besides taking up a part-time job.Besides husband, Ancia is survived by mother Razia and younger brother Asif.
