THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Severe unrest is brewing among the Congress rank and file in the state over the way the group fighting has been delaying the announcement of full list of Congress candidates for the Lok Sabha poll. Even after three days of discussions in New Delhi, the party couldn’t find candidates for Vadakara and Wayanad and the uncertainty has delayed the announcement in four seats.Former KPCC presidents V M Sudheeran and K Muraleedharan have expressed their unhappiness over the never ending Chandy-Chennithala fight.“It could have been done at one go when the first list was announced. The delay is leading to unnecessary discussions in television channels and also among party leaders. This will have an impact among the party workers and they are upset. I am of the opinion that it should not be dragged further and it is high time the leaders concentrated on campaigning,” said KPCC campaign committee chairman and MLA K Muraleedharan.Sudheeran said that the leaders should shed their unnecessary ego and group interests when the UDF has an edge. “The delay is eating into UDF’s advantage,” he said.Even after several rounds of discussions on Monday, the state leadership was unable to resolve the crisis over the demand for Wayanad seat by both the ‘A’ and ‘I’ groups. Moreover, the party could not zero in on a strong candidate for Vadakara. The only outcome of Monday’s debate was finalizing the candidatures of Adoor Prakash (Attingal) and Shanimol Usman (Alappuzha).By evening, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala reached the state. Sources said he was dejected over his nominee for Wayanad seat K P Abdul Majeed getting sidelined. It is learned that T Siddique , the trusted lieutenant of Oommen Chandy, is the front runner for the seat now. It is the adamant stand taken by Chandy that left Chennithala fuming and leave Delhi.KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran is camping in Delhi as pressure is mounting on him to contest from Vadakara. “The party needs a strong candidate and we all feel that Mullappally should contest,” said a senior Congress leader. Even though the high command urged Mullappally to contest, he has still not conceded to the demand.Though Chennithala had proposed Siddique as the candidate for Vadakara and accepted V V Prakash as the consensus candidate for Wayanad, Chandy objected to it.
