Helpdesks at IT firms to aid techies in voting

Desk at Technopark KOCHI: Progressive Techies (PT), the IT employees’ community at Infopark, will set up a voter’s list helpdesk at the tech park on Monday exclusively for techies.The helpdesk will be organized in association with the district Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation programme (SVEEP). Techies can utilize the facility to transfer the vote, register for new voter’s ID, apply for duplicate or missing voter’s ID card and make corrections in the existing ID.The two-hour helpdesk will be at Vismaya building in Infopark at 12 noon.PT president Aneesh Panthalani said the decision for setting up the helpdesk was made after several techies raised concerns about various electoral necessities.“Despite wanting to exercise their franchise, many people were not able to find time to rectify the issues. So, we approached the district administration,” Panthalani said.Two revenue department officials will be assigned to the helpdesk. Beena C Anand, tahsildar and nodal officer for SVEEP, said that the helpdesk would spread voter awareness and promoting voter literacy among techies ahead of the April 23 Lok Sabha polls.“We have been working towards preparing the district’s electors and equipping them with basic knowledge related to the electoral process through various session held at different places,” she said.Those wishing to avail the helpdesk services are required to produce required documents such as soft copies of old voter’s ID and Aadhaar card along with any other valid ID proof.The revenue officials raised concern about the possible network slowdown as Monday is the last date for registering in voters’ list. “The server might be busy and it can affect the process.
