KOCHI: Doctors said that the seven-year-old boy from Idukki, who was brutally assaulted by his mother’s paramour Arun Anand , is not responding to treatment. Sources at Kolencherry medical college said that the report given by a team of doctors from Kottayam Medical College asked the hospital to continue the ongoing course of treatment though the boy showed no signs of improvement.Doctors said the blood flow to his brain was almost nil and that his brain is almost dysfunctional. “Blood that accumulated in his brain was drained out. However, due to internal bleeding and consequential cerebral oedema (fluid building up around the brain, causing an increase in pressure known as intracranial pressure ) has damaged the functioning of his brain,” said a doctor.Meanwhile, his lungs have returned to the normal position said doctors. Yesterday, air accumulated in his chest cavity due to a leak in his lungs and tubes were inserted to remove the same. The tubes are still in place, said sources. “Though his lungs can work normally, the boy is unable to breath on his own due to severe brain damage. Hence, he is still on ventilator support,” said a source.Doctors are now pushing antibiotics, anti-oedema medicines, anti-epilepsy medicines and painkillers. “We are doing everything possible to help the child. However, he is not responding to treatment and hence he is in an extremely critical condition,” said a doctor. Though police invoked Pocso Act against Anand, doctors said there were no visible injuries on the boy’s genitals.
