To implement mosquito control measures in an effective manner, Kochi corporation authorities are planning a mass drive-by including residents’ associations, NGOs and ward sabhas.

The proposed drive received corporation council’s consent on Thursday. The drive would be conducted in each division under the leadership of the councillor of the respective division. The council also decided to allot Rs.1 lakh for cleaning small drains in each division. The first instalment of Rs.25,000 will be released immediately, mayor M Anil Kumar said.

He asked the councillors to ensure that the meeting of ward sabhas are convened at the earliest for the effective conduct of the mosquito control drive. As per the health department, fogging causes serious health issues. So, fogging will not be conducted in any places unless it is necessary. The mayor said the corporation will demand the state government to allow the local body to deploy more employees on a temporary basis for carrying out mosquito control activities.
