Covid get humanity at top, Kerala Doctor with the recent example.

The best example for humanity has been seen in Kerela Hospital, where a Hindu doctor was seen reciting Islamic prayers for the dead patient. Dr. Rekha Krishnan, working at a private hospital in Palakkad, recited Islamic prayers to a Muslim patient who was sinking due to Covid-19-related complications.

The female patient was hospitalized two weeks ago and was on a ventilator due to pneumonia. Her relatives were not allowed to see her due to Covid treatment protocols.

By May 17, the patient’s condition was worsening and her organs had started to shut down. It was decided that she would be taken off ventilator support as there was very little that the doctors could do at that point.

"With none of their relatives around her, I thought I should do something for the patient. Since I was brought up in the UAE, I knew about these prayers and practices. I gently recited this prayer and closed her eyes. As I concluded, the patient took a deep breath and then the line flattened," she shared.

Even though the episode made a deep impact on her, she did not relate it to anyone except a colleague, Dr. Mustafa.

"Nobody understands the stress we doctors are under. Due to Covid, we have now become the family of these patients,” Dr. Krishnan signed off.
