Mohammed Y. Safirulla in the presence of readers and students at a function held at TES@Udyan at Vennala in the city on Friday. Mr. Safirulla said his association with the newspaper dated back to over two decades, starting from his school days when his geography teacher used to ask questions based on news carried by The Hindu. Students who managed to answer them received a standing ovation from the entire class. He said the Op-Ed page of the newspaper had helped him meet the challenge of the civil services exam. The ‘connection’ with The Hindu was the running theme at the event as Balachandran, a retired oceanographer, shared with the audience his tryst with the newspaper, which began over six decades ago during his postgraduation days in erstwhile Madras.
