Little Krishnas, Radhas have a day out

Processions of little boys and girls dressed as little Krishnas, Radhas and gopis accompanied by various bhajan singing groups of Balagokulams were the highlight of the Sree Krishna Jayanti celebrations in the city on Tuesday. Shobha Yatras were held at various places such as Thrikkakara, Thripunithura, Chottanikkara, Maradu, Palluruthy, West Kochi and Vypeen under various Balagokulam units. The idol was received at the High Court Junction by Balagokulam’s celebration committee officials and taken to the Thammanam Ananthapuram Sree Krishna Temple. On Monday, the idol of Sree Krishna to lead the celebrations was brought to the city from the Chittoor Sree Krishna Temple in a procession on a boat.

The Shobha Yatras, as these processions are called, from various places in the city converged at Marine Drive from where the Maha Shobha Yatra concluded at the Siva Temple ground. Around 150 Shobha Yatras led by various Balagokulam groups were organised in the city. Processions were inaugurated by garlanding the idol of Lord Krishna by Swami Poornanandapuri at Marine Drive; K.S. Radhakrishnan, district president of Sree Krishna Jayanti reception committee, at Ayyappan Kavu; Sreekumari Ramachandran, district patron, Balagokulam, at Tirumala Devaswom Temple; and M.A. Krishnan, founder, Balagokulam, at Ravipuram. On Monday, the idol of Sree Krishna to lead the celebrations was brought to the city from the Chittoor Sree Krishna Temple in a procession on a boat. The idol was received at the High Court Junction by Balagokulam’s celebration committee officials and taken to the Thammanam Ananthapuram Sree Krishna Temple. The idol was carried on a chariot in the Shobha Yatra that started from Ayyappan Kavu. Shobha Yatras were held at various places such as Thrikkakara, Thripunithura, Chottanikkara, Maradu, Palluruthy, West Kochi and Vypeen under various Balagokulam units.
