more-in The police team probing the controversy over the distribution of pamphlets in Vadakkekara near North Paravur with the alleged intention of spreading communal disharmony is likely to submit a report to the State Police Chief in two weeks. Officials said the ongoing probe, led by P. Vijayan, Ernakulam Range Inspector General of Police, followed a direction from the State government. The probe team is also verifying the allegations that those who distributed pamphlets were attacked by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activists. Preliminary investigations had revealed that one of the three pamphlets distributed at the village contained ‘communally-sensitive’ literature. The case pertains to the arrest of 40 persons, volunteers of Wisdom Global Islamic Mission, on charges of distributing pamphlets containing remarks against polytheism and idol worship, and inviting people to join Islam. The incident kicked up a controversy with a group of local people seeking to resist their attempt, leading to a minor clash. While the volunteers were booked under section 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the IPC, cases were also registered against nine others on assault charges.
