Clinic for transgenders to be opened at GH

A special clinic for transgenders would be opened at the Ernakulam General Hospital, Health Minister K.K. CPI(M) district secretary P. Rajeev hailed the minister for the initiative and the hospital authorities for making timely arrangements. M. Narayanan, president of Kochi Chapter, said that proceeds from the musical concert, Haritham Jeevanam, have been handed over to the hospital. IMA donationThe Kochi Chapter of Indian Medical Association has donated ?40 lakh to the Oottupura (community kitchen) being run at the General Hospital to serve food to patients and their bystanders. This was after the CPI(M) district committee brought it to the notice of the minister and hospital authorities that transgenders were being denied proper treatment and consideration at the hospital, which has facilities including for sex-change surgery.

Anitha received the donation, which will help meet the Oottupura’s operational expenses for 100 days.
