Senior Nagaland journalist diesVinyulhou Xavier Rutsa, a prominent Kohima-based journalist who wrote for The Times of India for more than 15 years, died of a heart attack early on Monday. He was closely attached to a number of social organizations, especially those related to sports. He later worked for The North East Herald and Nagaland Post before he started writing for The Times of India until his death. Former CM Shurhozelie Liezietsu said Xavier contributed to society "through journalism and active involvement with many social organizations." Xavier, as this affectionate and warm-hearted journalist was known as, began his career as a staff reporter in The Daily Review, published from Kohima, in 1998.

Senior Nagaland journalist dies Vinyulhou Xavier Rutsa, a prominent Kohima-based journalist who wrote for The Times of India for more than 15 years, died of a heart attack early on Monday. He was 41. Xavier, as this affectionate and warm-hearted journalist was known as, began his career as a staff reporter in The Daily Review, published from Kohima, in 1998. He later worked for The North East Herald and Nagaland Post before he started writing for The Times of India until his death. During his long association with The Times of India, he took up many important assignments and accomplished them with honesty and fairness. "Hey, keneka ase? (how are you?)," he would cheerfully greet his colleagues from The Times of India.Xavier was equally popular with people from beyond the media fraternity because of his friendly and helpful nature. He was closely attached to a number of social organizations, especially those related to sports. He spent his final moments attending a meeting of the New Market Youth Organisation Sports Committee in Kohima. He suffered the fatal heart attack while he was returning home a little after midnight. He breathed his last while being taken to hospital.On Monday, Xavier's funeral service took place at New Market in Kohima. A bachelor, Xavier was president of Kohima Press Club till his passing. He is survived by two brothers and a sister. As news of his demise spread, heartfelt condolence messages began to pour in from all walks of life. Governor PB Acharya and chief minister Neiphiu Rio expressed their grief and sorrow at his death.Hailing Xavier as a "suave gentleman", leader of opposition TR Zeliang said, "Xavier was an epitome of good journalism." Former CM Shurhozelie Liezietsu said Xavier contributed to society "through journalism and active involvement with many social organizations." Mizoram Journalists' Association (MJA) and Journalists' Forum Assam (JFA) also condoled Xavier's death. MJA described Xavier as a "true leader who led from the front."
