Illegal liquor worth Rs one crore destroyed in Nagaland ahead of polls

NBS KK KK KK KOHIMA: Assam Rifles and Nagaland excise department have seized and destroyed illegal liquor worth more than Rs one crore and booked 175 people as part of the election expenditure monitoring ahead of the Lok Sabha polls , official sources said Tuesday.Excise personnel conducted raids across the state and seized liquor between March 12 to March 25, Commissioner of Excise, Nagaland, Tarep Imchen said.They seized 2078 litres of Indian made foreign liquor worth Rs 7,27,394 and 8033 litres of country-made liquor worth Rs 8,83,630, he said.Besides, 425 bottles of banned cough syrup were also seized during the frisking process, he said adding all the seized items were destroyed on the spot.A total 175 people were booked and fine amount of Rs 1,87,500 was realised from the offenders, Imchen said.The public relations officer of Inspector General Assam Rifles(North), Lt Col L Vincent Patton said that AR personnel based in Kohima raided strategic locations on March 23 and seized 2,294 cases of Indian made foreign liquor worth approximately Rs 1.06 crore.Imchen said security measures have been tightened across the state to prevent suspected movement of illegal consignment at both intra and inter-state level.
