Tourists Watch Out Dzukou Does Not Like Plastic

* A green and cleaner NagalandKOHIMA: In keeping with the objective of making Dzükou plastic free, strict checking of plastic items carried into Dzükou is being done to ensure that no plastics will be discarded at the two entry points of Viswema and Jakhama. Notice board detailing the guidelines to be followed are being put up at entry points and Dzükou base camp by the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO). Dzükou valley was declared a plastic free zone on June 5, 2019. Viswema and Jakhama routes were made the two Dzükou entry points in southern area to ensure the safety of tourists. SAYO also informed that tourists to Dzükou valley is increasing yearly, a large number of which are from Assam, Manipur and West Bengal, stated a DIPR release.

SAYO president, Zakieleto Tsükrü appreciating the marked improvement this has brought and said that more needs to be done especially in and around the base camp. Tsükrü also informed that in February 2019, SAYO campaigned and held meetings to totally ban hunting with the Village Councils, VDB, women and all stakeholders of Southern Angami villages. To prohibit hunting and burning of forest fires, SAYO with help from the Forest Department has put up notice boards along the national highway.Keduvi Zhotso, SAYO legal advisor, said there is no restriction of tourists from visiting Dzükou and clarified that the checkings are not to create apprehensions and requested the tourists to follow the guidelines. Wokha to award cleanest colony KOHIMA: In a noble gesture to encourage and to motivate the citizens of Wokha Town on cleanliness and to educate and fight against global warming, the Wokha District Planning & Development Board has set aside a cash award for the first, second and third category under the LADP Fund 2019-20 to be awarded to the cleanest colony. As the district has declared 2019-20 as the year of cleanliness, Rs 80,000, Rs 60,000 and 40,000 will be given to the winners. The board has also set up a selection committee to adjudge the winner. The colonies were given certain guideline to complete this task. Vice Chairman DPDB and Wokha DC Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon thanked all the local representatives (MLAs) for the initiative “which will promote and educate the citizens to maintain the towns clean, green and plastic free”. He further urged the colony to maintain consistency in keeping the colony clean for a healthy environment, stated a DIPR release.
