KOHIMA: The Kiphire district administration, District Level Centre for Women (MSK) and Sakhi one-stop centre organized a programme on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons in Kiphire Town on Tuesday, stated a DIPR release. Wetsho Lasushe, EAC (P) in his short speech thanked the organizers for helping Kiphire town mark this day with the rest of the world. “Human trafficking is a serious crime that exploits children, women and men for forced labour and sex,” he said. He mentioned that every country is affected by human trafficking and it is sad that our people are no exception. Additional SP Kiphire, Sentilong highlighted that trafficking can be manifested in so many ways including prostitution, child labour, domestic workers, begging, child marriage, illegal adoption and organ trade. “Anybody can be a victim to traffickers, so if this thing happens in the locality, complain has to be lodged at a police station or with the District Magistrate,” Sentilong said. The NCC unit of Kiphire presented a street play against trafficking. Awareness of trafficking was given by Tsosing Counsellor, (OST) where she called upon all the students to take action in the campus, join or establish a club to raise awareness about the human trafficking and initiate actions throughout the local community and also to work with local religious community or congregation to help and stop trafficking by supporting a victim or spreading awareness of human trafficking. Church leaders, school students, NGOs, ward leaders attended the programme. The programme was chaired by Visuthong T, District Coordinator (MSK).
