No hot water for bathing, Maharashtra man butchers daughter-in-law

KOLHAPUR: A 65-year-old man from Panhala taluka allegedly hit his daughter-in-law repeatedly with a chopper, severing one of her palms at the wrist, after she told him to wait when he demanded hot water to have a bath on Wednesday morning. He rushed back on hearing of the attack and took Shubhangi and the children to the Chhatrapati Pramila Raje civil hospital in Kolhapur around 11am. While the children were discharged later in the day, Shubhangi had to be shifted to a private hospital for advanced treatment.Desai said Satpute has been arrested.

KOLHAPUR: A 65-year-old man from Panhala taluka allegedly hit his daughter-in-law repeatedly with a chopper, severing one of her palms at the wrist, after she told him to wait when he demanded hot water to have a bath on Wednesday morning. The woman, Shubhangi Satpute (27), die due to the injuries she sustained in the attack. Doctors and the police said there were around 16 injuries on Shubhangi’s body. One blow near her neck caused severe loss of blood and resulted in her death later in the evening, they said.Police said that around 9.30am, the father-in-law, Pandurang Satpute, demanded that Shubhangi give him the water that she was heating on the stove for a bath. When she said her two children had to bathe first as they had to go to school, Satpute flew into a rage and attacked her with the chopper. He first hit her on the hands, severing one of her palms, before attacking her indiscriminately.Assistant police inspector Mangesh Desai said the children, Mayuresh (9) and Kanishka (4), rushed to their mother while she was being hit but Satpute attacked them too on their heads.Shubhangi’s husband Ramesh, a chappal vendor, had gone out at the time. He rushed back on hearing of the attack and took Shubhangi and the children to the Chhatrapati Pramila Raje civil hospital in Kolhapur around 11am. While the children were discharged later in the day, Shubhangi had to be shifted to a private hospital for advanced treatment.Desai said Satpute has been arrested.
