Tax on agri land: CM asks Mahajan to resolve issue

Nashik: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed district guardian minister Girish Mahajan to intervene on the issue of property tax hike, including that on agriculture land, by the civic administration and resolve it at the earliest.According to BJP MLA Seema Hiray, who along with other BJP leaders met Fadnavis on Tuesday, the chief minister has asked Mahajan to visit Nashik in the next few days and discuss about various tax hikes with the stakeholders.“We met the chief minister and the guardian minister on Tuesday. We want the tax hike to be completely waived off on agriculture land, hospitals, various organisations, schools, and also the tax that has been hiked on the basis of margin space in buildings,” Hiray said.As per the new rule, the property tax will be imposed on agriculture land, schools, religious places, hospitals, among others. After opposition from these property owners, the NMC reduced the hike of Rs 40 per square feet to Rs 20 per square feet, but the agriculture land owners are not ready to pay. BJP MLA Devyani Pharande is also reported to have met the chief minister earlier on the issue.“For no reason farmers have to pay property tax. How will hospitals, schools and various other organisations be able to pay the tax? Tax has also been increased through margin space in buildings which is wrong. We spoke about all these issues with the CM and he asked the guardian minister to visit the city in the next few days and discuss with the parties concerned and learn about their opinion,” Hiray said.An NMC official said the tax was imposed on agriculture land in the yellow zone and will also be imposed on constructions in the green zone. Meanwhile, mayor Ranjana Bhansi and other BJP leaders have also decided to meet Mahajan to waive off property tax on agriculture land and others.“The MLAs are meeting the chief minister.
