Shiv Sena alleges civic body’s collusion with traders, gives 7 days to remove constructions

Kolhapur: The city unit of Shiv Sena staged a protest outside Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) office on Thursday demanding action against the illegal constructions in the Tawade Hotel area.The workers started the rally at Papachi Tickti. They also alleged civic officials are in a nexus with the traders from Gandhinagar who have constructed the buildings and shops in the Tawade Hotel.Sena leader Sanjay Pawar said, “Since last six months, KMC is evicting vendors, removing shops of poor people and acting against encroachments. On the intervention of the state government asking civic authorities to stop the demolition of the illegal structures, Pawar said the party delegation will meet revenue minister Chandrakant Patil and request him to withdraw the ‘stop-action’ order issued to the civic body.

As they arrived at the KMC office, they threw bangles outside the entrance while the monthly general body meeting was underway.The workers shouted slogans against the civic administration alleging the officials bowed down before the state government and called off the demolition drive. They also alleged civic officials are in a nexus with the traders from Gandhinagar who have constructed the buildings and shops in the Tawade Hotel.Sena leader Sanjay Pawar said, “Since last six months, KMC is evicting vendors, removing shops of poor people and acting against encroachments. However, no action is being taken against the traders who have defied the law and have built houses and shops on reserved plots without permission. On the intervention of the state government asking civic authorities to stop the demolition of the illegal structures, Pawar said the party delegation will meet revenue minister Chandrakant Patil and request him to withdraw the ‘stop-action’ order issued to the civic body.
