India sees a wide range of cultural festival being celebrated and this one was not only dedicated to the rivers but also had a social cause attached to it. On the banks of river Panchganga in Kolhapur , hundreds of devotees gathered to offer prayers to the holy river. They did the rituals and performed the aarti wherein others also joined gradually. The motive was to not just perform aarti was also to create awareness regarding river cleanliness. At the event present was chairperson Shomika Mahadik who explained why it necessary to keep the rivers clean. She said that only performing aarti would not help when it comes to protecting nature, but various practises like not throwing garbage in river, not washing clothes, not immersing idols etc. can be done to prevent the pollution of river. Other present at event also pledged to work towards the cleanliness cause and gave a full support during the event.
