Monsoon arrives in district with heavy to moderate rain

KOLHAPUR: The southwest monsoon has arrived in Kolhapur district , with the catchment area registering heavy to moderate rainfall. We are sharing information on the discharge of water from dams into the rivers and the rise in water levels. Some parts of the city were paralysed with low-lying areas water logged for some time on Sunday morning. According to the administration, intensity of rain will likely increase over the next few hours.Kolhapur district recorded average rainfall of 27.4mm within the 24 hours ending 8am on Sunday. "Water levels in rivers flowing through the district will rise steadily as catchment areas in the region are set to receive heavy rainfall through Saturday and Sunday.

KOLHAPUR: The southwest monsoon has arrived in Kolhapur district , with the catchment area registering heavy to moderate rainfall. Intermittent showers continued across the district throughout Saturday night. According to the administration, intensity of rain will likely increase over the next few hours.Kolhapur district recorded average rainfall of 27.4mm within the 24 hours ending 8am on Sunday. Gaganbawada, which registered the highest amount of rain at 64mm, was followed by Bhudargad and Chandgad talukas. Rainfall in Bhudargad was recorded at 56mm, Chandgad recorded 43mm, Shahuwadi taluka received 32mm and Radhanagari recorded 31mm of rainfall. Several other areas experienced heavy to moderate showers: Ajara registered 28mm; Gadhinglaj 22mm; Karveer stood at 12mm ; Panhala 5mm; 3.25mm at Hatkanangle; and a low 1mm in Shirol taluka."Water levels in rivers flowing through the district will rise steadily as catchment areas in the region are set to receive heavy rainfall through Saturday and Sunday. There is no danger to people living along these river banks. However, we will be on alert to deal with incidents," an official from the disaster management cell said."The rainfall in the Radhanagari dam area was recorded at 55mm on Sunday. Rainfall in the Warna dam catchment area stood at 45mm. The catchment areas in Ghatprabha river and Kode dam received 104mm and 113mm of rain respectively," the official said.The official added that government bodies were closely monitoring the water levels in dams. "We are in touch with officials from the water resource departments at Satara and Sangli districts. We are sharing information on the discharge of water from dams into the rivers and the rise in water levels. We are controlling these levels by managing the discharge of water to ensure levels remain normal," he said.The rain that began on Saturday night continued until Sunday afternoon, affecting daily life across Kolhapur city. Some parts of the city were paralysed with low-lying areas water logged for some time on Sunday morning.
