Police book two under anti-moneylending act in separate cases

"We have registered a case against the suspect under section 506, 504 and section 39 and 45 of Maharashtra Moneylending Act. Sachin Ananadrao Varute (36), a resident of A Ward on Tarabai Road at Sakoli corner in Kolhapur has lodged the complaint. Nerlekar later lodged a complaint with Shahupuri police station. The moneylender has threatened Nerlekar to attack him if he fails to pay the amount.

KOLHAPUR: Two people have been booked under the moneylending act in two separate incidents in the city.In the first incident, Shahupuri police have registered a case against one person based in Sangli, for allegedly lending Rs 1 lakh at the rate of 10% per month in June 2011 and threatening the complainant if he fails to pay the money back. Sachin Ananadrao Varute (36), a resident of A Ward on Tarabai Road at Sakoli corner in Kolhapur has lodged the complaint. According to the complainant he had paid Rs 4.50 lakh but the suspect demanded Rs 1.90 lakh more including interest."We have registered a case against the suspect under section 506, 504 and section 39 and 45 of Maharashtra Moneylending Act. We have not yet arrested the suspect and will take action against him as per the law," said a police officer attached with Shahupuri police station.In another incident reported at Shahupuri police station, complainant Jayant Vasant Nerlekar, a resident of Balaji residency in Nagala park had borrowed a loan amounting to Rs 2 lakh from a person based in Kolhapur at the rate of 6%.Nerlekar had paid back Rs 1.53 lakh but the moneylender demanded Rs 2.72 lakh as pending amount. The moneylender has threatened Nerlekar to attack him if he fails to pay the amount. Nerlekar later lodged a complaint with Shahupuri police station.
