The city of Kolhapur made the most of the season by celebrating Chhatrapati Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj’s birth anniversary recently. To mark his birth anniversary, the citizens gathered in groups to be a part of the rally that held across the city. Celebrations of different kinds made the city colourful with various events lined up at certain places. Shahu’s birthplace held an exhibition of rare photographs of the great king, whereas some of part of the city organised lectures based on his life. Unlike every year, this year Shahu Jayanti seemed to be a folk festival. Youngsters were donned in saffron phetas and graced the rally. They performed beautifully at the dhol-tasha procession. Their moves to the beats were worth watching. Despite drizzling, their spirits did not seem to lower down and they kept the spectators engaged throughout the celebration.
