Property tax dept rakes in Rs 15cr in first 3 months of 2018

Kolhapur: The property tax department has raked in around Rs15 crore, in the first three months since the start of this financial year.The amount is 40% of the set target for property tax for the current financial year. We mainly managed to send the bills on time by sending the bills through the post,” Diwakar Karande, the property tax superintendent said.“We have also initiated property tax payment through anonline facility. We have started the campaign on every platform, especially through social media which has helped to increase the number,” said Karande. The officials claim that for this is the first time that such whooping amount of tax has been collected in the first three months.The deadline for availing concession of 6% in the property tax ended on June 30 and the civic officials said that the huge turnout of taxpayers to avail the concession was a major reason behind the amount collected.“Considering the demand of the property owners seeking concession, we ensured that the property tax bills reach on time. Those who did not receive the bills on time resorted to checking the bill amount online and also paid through the internet,” he added.The total concession given by the KMC as on June 30 is around Rs70 lakh and a concession of around Rs3 lakh has been given for those paying the bill amount online.

During 2017-18, around Rs1 crore concession was availed by 10,000 properties.For those paying the tax amount before September the concession will be around 4% while those paying it before November 30 will get concession of 2% on their total bill amount.“This financial year the final turnout of the owners applying for the concession scheme which will be much more than the last year. We have started the campaign on every platform, especially through social media which has helped to increase the number,” said Karande.
