KOLHAPUR: Seeking revenge for having been slapped , a man stabbed a 30-year-old traffic constable 18 times with a sharp weapon at a bar-cum-restaurant on Kupwad road in the Vishrambaug area of Sangli on Tuesday night. The constable, Samadhan Manate, who was in his uniform at the time of the incident, died on the spot.The police have detained two men for their alleged involvement in the crime and are searching for the man who stabbed the constable. CCTV footage of the incident clearly shows the constable being stabbed and collapsing to the ground.A police officer said Manate had gone to the restaurant after work to have dinner. "After finishing his meal, he went to pay the bill at the counter when he saw three men arguing with the restaurant owner. Manate intervened and slapped one of the men. The officer said that around 11.30pm, the men returned. "One of them charged at Manate and attacked him with a sharp weapon. He stabbed Manate 18 times in the stomach and the back before fleeing," he said.
