KOLHAPUR: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has put a total of 190 additional buses into service from Kolhapur to Pandharpur on the occasion of the ongoing Pandharpur Yatra (Wari). These buses will be available for three days i.e. Saturday to Monday.MSRTC divisional controller (Kolhapur) Rohan Palange on Saturday informed that the state transport utility takes this decision every year to enable people from Kolhapur and surrounding areas to travel to Pandharpur for paying obeisance to Lord Vitthal."The annual pilgrimage takes place every monsoon where large number of pilgrims march (Dindi) to Pandharpur from the various parts of the state," he said."The buses have been planned for the important days of the yatra beginning from July 21 to July 23 and these buses have been pooled in from depots across the division to ensure the pilgrims do not have to worry about the availability of buses," he added.According to Palange, the frequency of regular buses from the city to Pandharpur is not much, but since Wari holds a lot of importance the number has been increased for the convenience of the pilgrims."Pandharpur yatra is an important event in Maharashtra as it receives devotees from every corner of the state and from neighbouring states like Karnataka Telangana and Andhra Pradesh ," he said."It is difficult for many farmers to go for wari due to various agriculture-related activities during this season. Therefore, we have arranged additional buses from all depots in the district. There will be no fixed timing for these buses. Buses will leave as per availability of passengers and the devotees do not have to worry about schedule or anything," he added.Being asked if there will be any impact on the number of passengers due the rise in fare of ST buses, Palange said it is very unlikely that it will have any major impact.
