Moderate rain water level in Panchganga receding

KOLHAPUR: Kolhapur district received moderate rainfall on Saturday and Sunday resulting in the reduction of water level in River Panchganga.The river was flowing above the warning level on Sunday morning but water level receded below warning level (39 feet) from 5pm on Sunday. Hatkanangle taluka received 5 mm rainfall, Shirol 1.42 mm, Panhala 16 mm, Shahuwadi 24 mm, Radhanagari 34 mm, Karveer 11 mm, Kagal 17 mm, Gadhinglaj 10 mm, Bhudargad 25 mm, Ajara 32 mm and Chandgad taluka received 27 mm rainfall. "We are alert and constantly in touch with the taluka level disaster management teams," a district disaster management official said. He said only moderate rain is expected over the next few days.Kolhapur received an average of 24 mm rain with Gaganbawada getting the highest at 93 mm on Sunday. Radhanagari Dam is full to the brim and around 5,000 cusecs of water is being discharged from two automatic gates, numbers 3 and 6, to River Bhogawati, which further connects to Panchganga.The discharge of water from Radhanagari dam into Panchganga will not pose any danger to people living downstream on the banks of the river as other parts from which the river flows has not received high rainfall, and water level has been receding.
