Internet amp bus services cut off schools shut in Aurangabad

Earlier, internet services were shut on January 3 to curb riots after the Bhima Koregaon incident. Internet services were shut and state transport utility suspended its services.This is for the third time that the internet services have been shut in the district this year. Senior police officers said that if need be, the mobile internet services would again be suspended in the city limits without prior information.Aurangabad rural superintendent of police Arti Singh said, "Mischievous elements were found to be misusing social networking apps and websites to incite violence. Considering the turn of events in the past two-three days, we took a call to shut the internet services."Most users were caught unawares of the mobile internet suspension. Due to this clamp down, there was heavy rush at internet cafes in the city as wi-fi and broadband services were not affected.Aurangabad district collector Uday Choudhary said rumours were being spread on social media and posing a challenge to the efforts to maintain law and order situation.Despite the closure, a couple of service providers continued to offer their internet services in the city limits and were ultimately pulled them up. Earlier, internet services were shut on January 3 to curb riots after the Bhima Koregaon incident. Then, on May 12, police shut the services following communal clashes in the city.The agitation took a toll on MSRTC service in Aurangabad division, which did not ply buses from any of its depots. P Bhusari, divisional controller of the MSRTC Aurangabad division, said they could not estimate the losses due to bus suspension but would come out with a definite figure by Wednesday morning.Scores of passengers were left stranded after the state transport utility suspended its services. Sandip Jaybhay, a student from Jalna who was in Aurangabad for some work, had to travel back home in a crowded train.Schools and colleges remained shut in Aurangabad and Kolhapur as a precautionary measure on Tuesday on account of bandh called by Maratha leaders. A section of Aurangabad schools had informed parents about the closure on Tuesday well in advance, while others shared the announcement on morning.
