Maratha agitation Protesters pray at Mahalaxmi temple

KOLHAPUR: The members of Maratha organisations fighting for reservation in education and jobs continued their agitation on eighth day on Tuesday and visited Mahalaxmi temple.The members of Maratha organisations gathered at Ubha Maruti chowk on Tuesday morning and walked to Mahalaxmi temple via Mahadwar exhibiting traditional folk songs to pray to goddess Mahalaxmi.After reaching outside the temple, leaders of the agitation addressed the gathering. "We do not want any other assurance from the state government, only the reservation for Maratha community in education and jobs. We will continue our sit-in agitation till the government makes law accepting our demand," said a leader of the Maratha community.Maratha agitation in Satara district continues as agitations and morchas were taken out in many parts of the district on Tuesday. Later, ten women entered the temple and prayed for the government to get enlightened to grant reservation to the Maratha community.Members of the Maratha community also organised a human chain at Gangavesh area of city. Heavy police force, fire brigade , surveillance van and ambulance was deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident.

The road was cleared by removing hawkers on the Mahadwar road."We do not want any other assurance from the state government, only the reservation for Maratha community in education and jobs. We will continue our sit-in agitation till the government makes law accepting our demand," said a leader of the Maratha community.Maratha agitation in Satara district continues as agitations and morchas were taken out in many parts of the district on Tuesday. The agitators organised demonstrations in Dahiwadi, Faltan, Waduj and Wai in Satara district.On the backdrop of recent violence at Chakan in Pune, the police are keeping a watch on the agitations and maintaining law and order in the Kolhapur district , said a senior police officer.
