Call for bandh forces SUK to reschedule PhD exam

KOLHAPUR: Shivaji University Kolhapur (SUK) has rescheduled its PhD entrance date. The qualifying marks for this entrance test will be 50% marks. This is because there is a plan for a Maharashtra bandh on August 9, on a call from Maratha outfits. There will be no negative marks for incorrect answers.The varsity has three examination centres in three districts -- Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara. The PhD is now compulsory for the position of assistant professor, and we know how important this examination is.

KOLHAPUR: Shivaji University Kolhapur (SUK) has rescheduled its PhD entrance date. University officials said the exam will be conducted on three days -- August 8, 10 and 11. This is because there is a plan for a Maharashtra bandh on August 9, on a call from Maratha outfits. "We invited complaints regarding the revised schedule and accordingly, the final schedule will be released on Thursday, August 2," an official said.DT Shirke, pro vice chancellor of the university told TOI that considering the possibility of Maharashtra bandh on August 9 by Maratha outfits, the date has been rescheduled."We don't want students to miss the chance to appear for this exam. The PhD is now compulsory for the position of assistant professor, and we know how important this examination is. Candidates who get a PhD are also exempt from NET/SET, the examinations to establish eligibility for assistant professorship.Shirke said there were over 900 PhD seats on offer at the university and the response was phenomenal. The data is still being compiled, he said, about the number of applicants.The entrance test, according to the university website, is a qualifying test for admission to the MPhil/PhD programme, of 100 marks (50 questions of two marks each, with multiple choices). The qualifying marks for this entrance test will be 50% marks. There will be no negative marks for incorrect answers.The varsity has three examination centres in three districts -- Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara. The website will soon have updates on the examination.
