KOLHAPUR: Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the leader of masses and we were the ones who witnessed it first hand, says Subhash Vora, former member of Jansangh from the city.According to him, Vajpayee must have visited the city around four times. Not a single political activist was allowed when he used to be there. "For the first time he visited in the year 1973. "It was his charisma that made Jansangh, a party of people of all communities. "He always advised us to guide people who were in need of guidance.

"For the first time he visited in the year 1973. A few other meetings were organised at city's iconic Bindu chowk . He was a man of simple taste. Morning strolls at Rankala lake was his favourite and so was city's Misal Pav," he said.Vora added that every time Vajpayee was in the city, he would accompany him and learned a lot about the political and social skills.P D Ganpule, another Jansangh worker, told TOI that Vajpayee had found his solitude in Rankalas Sandhyamath "Whenever he used to feel tired he would go and sit at Sandhyamath at Rankala alone. Not a single political activist was allowed when he used to be there. Once he would get in there, he would spend hours and would return refreshed," he said.The one advise he would constantly give to the members and activists of Jansangh was to look after the Dalits as well as middle class section of the society, he added. "He always advised us to guide people who were in need of guidance."It was his charisma that made Jansangh, a party of people of all communities. "We learnt a lot from his leadership, his well-researched speeches and he knew what were the issues that time people were facing and how to handle them," Ganpule said.When became prime minister for the very first time, we distributed sweets across the city, he said.
