PMDS donates 10 lakh for Kerala flood victims

KOLHAPUR: The Paschim Maharashtra Devsthan Samiti (PMDS) donated Rs 10 lakh to Kerala flood victims in a formal ceremony at the Mahalaxmi temple on Friday.Mahesh Jadhav, PMDS chairman, said Kerala is witnessing one of the worst flood situations and they are trying their bit to assist the victims with this financial aid. Meanwhile, more than 700 women attended a special puja of Kumkumarchan - organised at the Mahalaxmi temple on Friday. "The people of Kerala are in dire need of financial assistance. "Apart from this, Rs 2 lakh has been donated for the welfare of Kolhapur Police," he said.Jadhav also appealed to the citizens to come forward and donate for the same cause. About 3 lakh people are staying at relief camps.

Our district is well-known for its natural and financial resources and this is the time when people should come forward and donate for the cause," he said.It has to be noted that Kerala is battling its worst flood in 100 years and the state government has estimated loss due to the disaster to be about Rs 21,000 crore. About 3 lakh people are staying at relief camps. In its biggest rescue and relief operation till date, the NDRF has evacuated over 10,000 people in Kerala from heavy rains and floodwaters.In all over 20,000 stranded people have been rescued and the army has built 13 temporary bridges. The PM earlier last week undertook an aerial survey of flood-affected areas and according to the state officials, help is desperately needed as displaced people need food, medicines and other necessary supplies.From Kolhapur as well, members of NGO White army have set their camp in Kochi for the volunteering activity from last week. Meanwhile, more than 700 women attended a special puja of Kumkumarchan - organised at the Mahalaxmi temple on Friday.
