Kolhapur: A man has been booked for cheating Giri Girish Kulkarni (59) to the tune of Rs38 lakh on the pretext of selling her a land since 2013.“The victim, a resident of Ichalkaranji, met the suspect in 2013. The two used to meet regularly and during one of the meetings the suspect told Kulkarni that he deals with buying and selling real estate in the district,” an officer from the Shivajinagar police station said.The suspect showed Kulkarni a 3acre agricultural land in Peth Vadgaon village in Hatkanangle taluka and she agreed to buy the land.“She paid the suspect Rs38 lakh in instalments till July 2018. However, in August, she found out that the suspects name is attached to the same property,” the officer said.When Kulkarni asked the suspect to return her money, he said that the land belongs to him.“After the man refused to pay her back, the woman lodged a complaint against him. An offence has been registered under section 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of Indian Penal Code,” the officer said.“We have initiated an probe in this regard. The suspect will be arrested after we complete investigations. Appropriate action will be taken against the suspect at the earliest,” he added.
