KOLHAPUR: The Shivaji University Kolhapur (SUK) has asked all its affiliated colleges —yet to go through the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation — to submit their action plan for the same by October 15.In a circular, dated October 5, it said that the NAAC accreditation is mandatory for all colleges in the region and an action plan needs to be created by those who are yet to comply with the norm.D T Shirke, SUK pro-VC, said, “We want to know the current status of the colleges in regard with their NAAC preparation. “More such workshops are on the cards to ensure that involvement of colleges increases in the procedure,” he said.According to Shirke, the varsity has already vowed that all the affiliated colleges will go through the NAAC accreditation by the year 2024 and this is the first step towards achieving this goal.“By giving them an action plan, the colleges can go through the process at the earliest and start working on areas that need attention,” he said.He added that NAAC accreditation is a mandatory norm and funding through the Union Grants Commission (UGC) and Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) can be availed in many cases only if an institute has got the assessment and required grading.It should be noted that the UGC in its public notice on April 13, 2016 had said that a college with highest accreditation in three cycles of NAAC assessment will be granted an autonomous status that is also another reason for colleges to apply for accreditation.The NAAC is an autonomous body established by the UGC to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country.
