However, the KMC lacks policy for considering such funding proposals for developmental activities. The earlier policy of 2013 had set a minimum donation limit of Rs 5 lakh. Some wants to paint and provide equipment to schools while others want to develop gardens in their localities. The board will be allowed to be displayed till the firm carries out maintenance work. For them we are going to open a separate account and the funds thus collected will be utilised for the work they desire to be undertaken or that we feel needs to be carried out.

Kolhapur: The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has drafted a fresh policy to get the corporates and private firms on board for the development of city’s infrastructure.Under the scheme hospitals, schools, gardens, traffic island, toilets and fashion streets will be developed.Several industrialists had approached civic chief Abhijeet Chaudhari expressing desire to develop gardens and traffic islands in their localities. However, the KMC lacks policy for considering such funding proposals for developmental activities. In order to tap such funds, civic administration has drafted a proposal that will be tabled before the general body meeting on Tuesday.Chaudhari, while speaking to TOI said, “Several industrialists and wealthy people desire to spend some part of their income towards social and developmental cause. Some wants to paint and provide equipment to schools while others want to develop gardens in their localities. The earlier policy of 2013 had set a minimum donation limit of Rs 5 lakh. However, while expanding the scope, we have decided to remove the limit and allow contributions of lesser amount as well.”The draft policy has set four slabs starting from Rs 2 lakh up to Rs 20 lakh. The policy mentions that the contribution made by the corporates will be recognised by putting a board with the name of the donor or the name of their industry or the firm. The board will be allowed to be displayed till the firm carries out maintenance work. The firm can display their name and carry out the maintenance work from 2 years to 15 years after which donated assets or development work will be transferred to the KMC for further maintenance.“Some firms and individuals want to donate in cash. For them we are going to open a separate account and the funds thus collected will be utilised for the work they desire to be undertaken or that we feel needs to be carried out. There will be no third-party involvement in this nor there will be any tendering process which will help avoid the delays or undue interference from any one,” said Chaudhari.
