15,000 seed papers to be distributed

There are several seeds in a paper sheet, which is printed with facts related to the environment. "With seeds already embedded in the paper, we are sure it will pique their curiosity. KOLHAPUR: In a unique initiative, the city-based Conservation Foundation of India (CFI), an NGO, will distribute over 15,000 seed papers embedded with different plant seeds from this week onwards.A formal inauguration ceremony was observed on Monday with Vishwas Nangre Patil , special Inspector General, Kolhapur Range planting the seeds at the special inspector general office in the presence of the NGO volunteers.Ashish Ghevde, CFI President, told TOI that the objective behind this initiative is to create awareness among students about plantation. The bio-degradable nature of the paper will help give new life to the piece of land where they will be planted," he said.He further added that the paper has been specially imported from Tamil Nadu and costs around Rs8-10 per sheet, which will be distributed among students.According to Ghevde, the number of volunteers are increasing everyday, giving a push to the environmental awareness movement which was started way back in 1994.Vishwas Nangre Patil, while inaugurating the seed paper , said that he generally doesn't like tearing up the paper but he would love to plant it since it is eco-friendly in nature.He further added that preservation of nature is the need of the hour and innovative projects like these will help people to come forward and work for the environment.
