Kolhapur: Minister of state for agriculture Sadabhau Khot on Tuesday informed that he will be contesting from the Hatkanangle Lok Sabha constituency.Khot was speaking at a press conference organised at the circuit house in Kolhapur on Tuesday. Addressing the reporters, Khot said, “I am a wrestler and for me the best wrestling ground is Hatkanangle. I have completed the groundwork and have reached out to the grassroots through my work as a minister for agriculture and with schemes that benefit the farmers.”He added, “After Diwali we have organised series of sports competition in the Hatkanangle constituency. All the field games and traditional games like Kabbadi and Kho-Kho played in Maharashtra will be included in the competition and sports like cricket will be excluded. This will help in strengthening the bond between people and will help in increasing connect of our organisation among people,” he said.Khot said that from the past last three-and-a-half years, the government is working for the betterment of farmers and that has resulted in less number of agitations.“For sugarcane-producing farmers, they had to organise agitations against sugar mill owners during last government’s tenure as millers were part of ruling parties. But now government is playing a major role in farmers getting their dues from millers and farmers did not have to agitate for their demand. This is an achievement of our government,” he said.“Earlier, farmers used to agitate and millers used to get packages for addressing farmers’ woes. This year we have already declared sops for millers that will ultimately benefit farmers without any agitation,” he said.Being asked about whether he will play any role in meeting between sugar millers and farmers to find out conclusion over recent issue, he said, “State government always takes steps for betterment of farmers and we will do the needful as and when required.”
