Rainfall likely for next two days in south Maharashtra IMD

India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said that the dark clouds would continue to loom over the region for the next couple of days and chances of rainfall cannot be ruled out. Residents had to face problems navigating the area.District officials said the untimely rainfall has affected sugar cane crushing in the region. The sudden rainfall also affected grape cultivation in Sangli district. The cane cutters had to halt their work owning to heavy rainfall in the region on Sunday night and Monday.

KOLHAPUR: A sudden movement in a deep depression over Southeast Arabian sea brought heavy showers to the city and parts of southern Maharashtra since Sunday night. India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said that the dark clouds would continue to loom over the region for the next couple of days and chances of rainfall cannot be ruled out. As per the weather report from the IMD, Mumbai, a deep depression over Southeast Arabian sea moved westwards with a speed of 21 km per hour.According to IMD officials, South Maharashtra region including Kolhapur , Sangli and Satara districts will receive rain or thunder showers on Wednesday and Thursday. Satara and Sangli districts received normal rainfall on Monday. The drought-prone areas in Maan and Khatav talukas also received rainfall on Monday.The sudden showers from Sunday night resulted in waterlogging at many low-lying areas of the city. Residents had to face problems navigating the area.District officials said the untimely rainfall has affected sugar cane crushing in the region. The cane cutters had to halt their work owning to heavy rainfall in the region on Sunday night and Monday. The sudden rainfall also affected grape cultivation in Sangli district. If the overcast conditions continue for the next couple of days, the grapes will be further affected.However, pomegranate cultivators from Atpadi area of Sangli district have got a respite. They were using tankers to water the crop at present and the untimely rainfall has reduced their burden of watering their fields for some days at least.
