KOLHAPUR: The workers of Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have alleged that there was a plan to not let the corporators vote in the election for the posts of mayor and deputy and that they were obstructed at the gate of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) building.The corporators met at the civic headquaters along with newly elected mayor Sarita More and deputy mayor Bhupal Shete. An hour before the actual voting was to take place on Monday morning, the corporators along with their leaders MLA Hasan Mushrif and MLC Satej Patil clashed with the police. The corporators alleged that the one of the police officers was misbehaving and wanted to instigate them to create disturbance in law and order.Mayor More said, “Police deployed did not treat women corporators properly and heckled them. I was pushed aside despite informong them that I was a candidate. If there was even a minute’s delay in entering the hall, the outcome of the results would have been against us despite having majority. We have submitted a complaint to the police and asked them to carry out enquiry into the incident and punish the officer responsible. If the police fail to take action we will protest until the action is taken.”Sharangdhar Deshmukh, senior Congress corporator said, “The conspiracy was at play to stop us at the gate.
